Placed just outside the town it was constituted by the “Ecclesia Et Hospitale S.Maria De Martiribus”. It had not only a religious function, but also and above all that of assisting travelers (hospitale) both by refreshing them with dishes (hence the nearby “tavern”) and by treating the ailments that long journeys involved. It enjoyed a certain autonomy, as it possessed a small commenda consisting of several rooms, a water mill and the “Ventreglia” spring. The recently restored chapel blends in well with the surrounding rural environment. Inside, on the unmade walls we can admire the remains of paintings, while in the central part we find the statue of the Virgin on a throne.
